Short answer. Use the closed boxes’ outside dimensions and the bag’s usable inside dimensions. Check the opening, padding, packed weight, and component containment separately.
Choose what you need to carry
Make a trip-specific list rather than packing the whole collection by default. Record each box, accessories, and any expansions that travel in a separate container. The packing checklist provides a reusable starting point. Keep essential small components together and label the container so they can be checked on arrival.
Measure the packed objects
A lid that lifts makes the packed box taller than an empty box. A protective cover or corner padding also adds space. Measure the actual outside envelope with the lid and protection in place. Do not substitute the game’s nominal retail-box size when your configuration changes it.
Check the bag’s usable space
Internal dimensions, external dimensions, and the size of the opening are different constraints. A rectangular capacity figure does not prove that a rigid box can pass through a rounded opening. Ask the supplier what the measurement includes and whether padding or dividers reduce the space.
Plan the layout and carry
Arrange a dry packing trial at home with the same items you intend to take. Avoid forcing a zipper around a protruding box corner. Follow the bag manufacturer’s load and use instructions. Choose a load you can handle comfortably; this guide does not establish a safe carrying weight for a person or a specific bag.
Check before and after the trip
Record closure, component containment, and visible box condition before leaving. On arrival, check whether anything shifted and record the route and handling conditions. A successful shelf-orientation check is not a transport test. Controlled comparisons need repeatable conditions and documentation.
Decision record
| Constraint | Check |
|---|---|
| Main compartment | Usable internal dimensions |
| Opening | Rigid box can enter without forcing |
| Weight | Exact bag’s instructions and actual load |
| Protection | Padding included in measurements |
| Containment | Components remain in their intended containers |
