Short answer. Compatibility belongs to a specific game edition, expansion list, insert version, and sleeve configuration. A matching game title is only the first check.
Identify the exact copy
Record the publisher, edition, language, region, and printing information that appears on your box or rulebook. Do not infer that two copies share dimensions because their cover art is similar. If a listing is ambiguous, ask the supplier to confirm the edition before buying. Keep the response and its date with your inventory.
Build a configuration record
List the base game, every expansion, optional modules, promo cards, replacement components, and sleeves. Include the insert model and version. An insert advertised for a base game may not make a claim about all later expansions. Keep official support statements separate from your own measurements and from community reports.
Read support statements literally
Look for what the manufacturer explicitly includes and excludes. For example, the Folded Space FS-TAPE page identifies named expansions and distinguishes an older design from its replacement. That is manufacturer evidence for the stated configuration; it does not establish fit for an unnamed edition or expansion. Archive the source URL and check date rather than reducing the claim to a generic yes.
Choose the right evidence status
Use MANUFACTURER DATA for a supplier’s stated specification, THIRD-PARTY DATA for an identified independent report, ORIGINAL TEST only for a documented physical check, and UNVERIFIED for unresolved fields. Evidence status is not a score. Two contradictory reports should remain visible until their editions and methods have been reconciled.
Stop when the unresolved field matters
A missing sleeve-thickness limit matters if you intend to use thick sleeves. Unknown internal dimensions matter when the insert requires a tight fit. Do not fill those cells with an estimate and call the result compatible. Record the question, obtain the missing information, and check again with the actual packed configuration.
Decision record
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Edition / region | Box and component versions may differ |
| Expansion list | Defines the content being stored |
| Insert version | Keeps revisions separate |
| Sleeve brand / thickness | Describes the card configuration |
| Source / date / status | Shows what supports the claim |
