Sleeved cards do not fit: diagnose the blocked dimension

Short answer. Check the sleeved card’s footprint, the stack height, and the space above the tray. Resolve the specific obstruction before changing the whole storage system.

Empty only the affected compartment

Keep the rest of the packing order intact so you can isolate the change. Confirm the card count and remove dividers or accessories temporarily for diagnosis. Compare the original deck and the sleeved deck without forcing either into the compartment. If a card bows or a seam catches, stop.

Check width and height first

Try one sleeved card and identify whether the outer edges or the sleeve opening hit the tray. Measure the compartment at its narrowest point, including any taper or ribs. A compartment described by its outside dimensions is not evidence of usable card space. Keep the measured card footprint and compartment dimensions in different fields.

Then check the full stack

If one card fits but the full deck does not, measure the stack and the available clearance with the boards and rulebooks in their intended positions. Include tokens, promo cards, and dividers if they share the compartment. A count that excludes those items can give a misleading diagnosis.

Choose a reversible fix

Candidates include dividing the deck between suitable compartments, moving dividers, using an appropriately sized removable container, or selecting a supported insert configuration. Each option needs a packed-box check. Do not trim sleeves, cut the game box, or compress cards as the default response. Confirm card fit before buying a replacement sleeve product.

Update the compatibility record

Record which dimension blocked fit, the product versions, and what change resolved it. Distinguish an observation from a proposed solution. A personal success with one copy should not become a universal compatibility claim. Recheck after adding cards or changing the sleeve line.
