Short answer. Record the exact configuration, define a repeatable task, and preserve the raw observations. Use manufacturer claims and original tests as separate evidence.
Define the question and baseline
Write a question that one trial can address: does the packed box close, are components contained during a defined reorientation, or how long does a defined setup task take? Describe the original arrangement as the baseline. Decide what counts as success before starting. Do not combine assembly time, sorting time, and game setup into a single unexplained result.
Record the configuration
Use the game edition, region, expansion list, insert model and revision, sleeve product and declared thickness, card count, and packing order. Record the equipment used, its resolution, the date, and the person who performed the check. Distinguish internal box measurements from external packed-box measurements. Save original images without modifying them to hide a defect.
Measure closure without forcing
Record the lid position of the reference packed box and the modified arrangement using the same surface and method. Check more than one corner because the lid may sit unevenly. Describe the point of measurement and any baseline gap. Do not weigh down the lid or compress components to achieve a closure result.
Make timing reproducible
Define the start state, end state, component layout, and what pauses count. Use the same operator and procedure when comparing arrangements, and note familiarity or practice. Repeat the task rather than presenting one favorable run as typical. Preserve every measured run and explain the summary you choose; do not invent a sample count before trials exist.
Test orientation and transport separately
First document a controlled reorientation on a supported surface. Stop if the lid opens or a component is at risk. Transport introduces additional handling and movement, so describe it in a separate record. Never perform a destructive drop or stress test simply to imitate ordinary carrying. A pass applies only to the documented conditions.
Publish the limitations with the result
Include sources, raw measurements, unsuccessful runs, original photographs, and what was not evaluated. Use ORIGINAL TEST only when that evidence exists. Change the result to unresolved when a new edition or product revision breaks the configuration match. Maintain a correction log instead of silently replacing contradictory results.
Decision record
| Record | Required evidence |
|---|---|
| Closure | Baseline, modified position, method, original images |
| Setup time | Start/end definition and all runs |
| Orientation | Packing order, handling procedure, observations |
| Transport | Route, load, bag, handling, before/after condition |
