Sleeve thickness and storage: measure the deck

Short answer. A measured sample stack is more useful for storage planning than multiplying a sleeve film specification. Use the same card and sleeve combination you intend to store.

Separate film thickness from deck height

A declared micron value describes a sleeve specification whose convention must be checked with the supplier. The stored deck also includes cards, seams, surface texture, and air. Do not turn a film value into an exact stack-height claim. Use it to describe the product, then measure the complete sleeved sample.

Prepare a representative sample

Count a manageable sample of the actual cards in the selected sleeves. Keep their orientation and handling consistent. Include an inner or outer sleeve if that is the intended arrangement. Rest the sample without compressing or weighting it. Record the count and the observed height in millimeters.

Scale only as a planning estimate

Estimate total height as sample stack height divided by sample card count, multiplied by the intended count. Use the storage volume calculator to do the arithmetic. The estimate assumes the sample is representative and stacking behavior stays similar. A full deck check remains necessary near a clearance limit.

Use the stored footprint

For a rectangular volume estimate, multiply the measured outside width and height of a sleeved card by the estimated deck height. This is a bounding volume, not the material volume of the plastic. It excludes dividers, finger access, tray walls, and any irregular packing. Add those constraints separately instead of treating the estimate as a capacity certificate.

Keep actual measurements with revisions

Record the sleeve product, declared thickness, sample count, observed stack height, measurement method, and date. Retest when the sleeve line or card format changes. If the measured full deck differs from the estimate, preserve both results and explain the discrepancy rather than replacing the estimate with an unsupported claim.
